Malasana is Garland Pose, or a deep seated squat. This posture takes on a reflective, grounding quality. It helps us establish a firm connection with the ground, and helps us clear away tension in the hips and lower back. It has a primitive, earthy quality to it as well, which is a chance for us to rediscover our roots and activate our root chakra. This is an excellent pose to practice when we need to find a sense of calm and anchoring.
